Special recommendations

Keep in mind the following recommendations, you must take them into account to attend your appointment:

  • Arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time.
  • Bring your ID if required.
  • Authorizations.
  • Identification document.

If you have been treated at another institution or have had previous ophthalmic exams, please bring them. Also, keep in mind the following recommendations as applicable:

Recommendations before a consultation

First time comprehensive appointment

Your attention starts with nursing; then optometry; then examination of the anterior segment, dilation, and finally, examination of the posterior segment.

This process takes an average of 1 to 2 hours.

If you wear contact lenses:

If they are soft, remove them 4 days before the appointment or 8 days before if they are rigid. In any case, bring your lenses, glasses, or optical prescription. Your pupils will be dilated: your vision will be blurry for 3-4 hours; we recommend bringing sunglasses and coming accompanied by a responsible adult, as your eyes may remain dilated, you will not be able to drive or travel without the help of a companion.

Optometry consultation

For an optometry consultation, it is necessary to remove contact lenses 4 days before the appointment.

Low cycloplegia optometry consultation

For a low cycloplegia optometry consultation, the following is necessary: If you wear contact lenses, remove them 4 days before the appointment or 8 days before if they are rigid.

It is important to come accompanied, as after the study, you will have blurry vision.

If you have flu symptoms, please reschedule or schedule your appointment.

Orthoptic evaluation

For an orthoptic consultation, it is not recommended to have dilated pupils.

Use your glasses or contact lenses or bring your optical prescription.

Recommendations for the following diagnostic tests

Angioretinography

Remember the following instructions:

  • Be completely fasting.
  • If you take medication for blood pressure, take it one hour before with very little water.
  • If you take or inject medication for diabetes, do it after the exam.
  • Come accompanied.
  • Bring loose-fitting clothes.

Ocular Biometry

It cannot be done with dilated pupils.

If you wear contact lenses: if they are soft, remove them 4 days before the appointment or 8 days before if they are rigid.

Report if you have had refractive surgery (LASIK) as it requires another study.

P.I.O. curve (intraocular pressure)

The recommendations for this test are as follows:

  • You cannot consume liquids after 7 a.m.
  • You must bring a liter of water to drink when your doctor instructs you to.
  • If you take blood pressure medication, you can take it with very little water.
  • You must come with availability of time as this test takes two to three hours.

Computerized visual field study

Bring your glasses or contact lenses or their optical prescription. It cannot be done with dilated pupils.

Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM)

For the UBM Ultrasonography study, you should arrive 30 minutes early, accompanied.

Do not wear false eyelashes or eye makeup.

Color Photo Study (Retina or Optic Nerve)

Your pupils will be dilated: your vision will be blurred for 3-4 hours; bring sunglasses and come accompanied by a responsible adult, as you will not be able to drive after the appointment.

WAVEFRONT - COAS study

If you wear contact lenses: if they are soft, remove them 4 days before the appointment or 8 days before if they are rigid.

A specific size of your pupil is required; if necessary, your pupils will be dilated: your vision will be blurry for 3-4 hours; bring sunglasses and come accompanied by a responsible adult, as you will not be able to drive after the appointment.

Pupilometry - contrast sensitivity

It cannot be done with dilated pupils.

Endothelial counting or pachymetry

If you wear contact lenses: if they are soft, remove them 4 days before the appointment or 8 days before if they are rigid.

Corneal topography - PENTACAM - GALILEI

If you wear contact lenses: if they are soft, remove them 4 days before the appointment or 8 days before if they are rigid.

Recommendations for undergoing a procedure

Non-surgical procedure

For the procedure, if necessary, your pupils will be dilated: your vision will be blurry for 3-4 hours; bring sunglasses and come accompanied by a responsible adult, as you will not be able to drive after the appointment.

Medical availability

The consultation days for the anterior segment specialty with the doctors (Dr. Luisa Anaya, Dr. José Carlos Lora, and Dr. Cesar Carriazo) are as follows:

Monday and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

For the retina specialty, the schedule is:

Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The other specialties such as Glaucoma, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplasty, and Neurophthalmology are as follows:

Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Surgery prices

First, you must attend an assessment consultation. Then, a series of tests are sent to determine, based on the diagnosis, whether the patient is fit for surgery or not.

The consultation fee is comprehensive and includes ophthalmology and optometry consultations.

The procedure fee depends on the type of surgical technique and the patient’s visual condition.
